State of the art in clinical decision support applications in pediatric perioperative medicine.


 

Interesting and informative article exploring the ways information technology can be of benefit to clinicians in improving health care delivery. Avenues in which clinical decision support have been used successfully in the world of paediatrics are discussed. These include using pre-existing data sets to aid diagnosis and clinical decision making as well as being a clinical tool to enhance adherence to protocols/guidelines. It has also been employed as a method of improving monitoring for a range of physiological, laboratory and pharmacological measures. This is an exciting and dynamic development in paediatric perioperative medicine and is hoped to be the catalyst for further use of technology to improve clinical outcomes.
